Before you begin
What to know before you start
- Signing in lets this computer open tunnels for your account until you sign it out or revoke it in the dashboard.
Steps
Step 1. Start the sign-in.
Terminal npx @instawormhole/connector loginYou should see: The terminal prints a short code and a web address to open.
Step 2. Open the address and approve the computer.
Sign in to InstaWormhole if asked. The approval page shows details about the computer that asked and the question: Is this your computer? Approve only a request you started.
You should see: The terminal prints: Signed in. This computer is now authorized.
To check: If you did not start the request, deny it. The code works once and stops working after a short time.
Step 3. Check the sign-in.
Terminal npx @instawormhole/connector statusYou should see: The terminal prints that this computer is signed in, with the last eight characters of its device id.
To check: The status command reads the local credential store and does not contact the service.
You are done when
- The status command says this computer is signed in.
What to do next
If something goes wrong
- Signing in fails or the connector says it cannot reach the service.
- Run the doctor command. It checks the operating system credential store and whether the service answers, prints ok or FAIL for each, and never prints a secret.
- The credential store is not available.
- Your computer has no operating system credential store, which is common on a server. On Linux you can add --store file to keep the credential in a private file, or you can pass a one-use credential on standard input with --credential-stdin when you run the connector.
- The approval page says the code is not valid.
- The code expired or was used. Run the login command again to get a new code.
Undo or clean up
- Sign out with the logout command, or revoke the computer under Connectors and devices in the dashboard.
